Doors are sold according to their individual height and width. Whilst we wish doors were rectangular enough not to require in-depth measuring, doorframes can warp over time, changing the shape. Before fitting interior doors, you must take two measurements for the height and three for the width.
How do I measure the width?
To effectively measure the width of your door, you must take a total of three measurements. These will be one at the top of the frame, one at the middle of the frame, and finally, one at the bottom of the frame.
How do I measure the height?
To measure the height of your door, you must take two measurements - one from the left and one from the right.
How do I measure a door rebate?
The rebate is measured from the depth of the leading edge into the rebate. An easy way to remember the rebate is to consider the area the door sits into when it is closed. A typical door width is around 35mm.
It’s also incredibly important to remember that you will need to leave a small space at the bottom of the door for your flooring. Whether you’re planning on a wooden floor or a thicker deep-pile carpet, your measurements may vary. A good note to remember is that you can make a door smaller, but you cannot make it bigger again!
